At last year's Hawaii state championship girls softball game a total of 900 tickets were sold which resulted in a total of $5,100 collected from ticket sales. There were 2 types of tickets sold: Student tickets cost $4 each and adult tickets cost $7 each. If x represents the number of student tickets sold and y represents the number of adult tickets sold, write an equation that represents the total number of tickets sold.

    4x + 7y = 5100

    x + y = 900

    this is the system of equations u would use ... but if u just need 1 equation ...

    x = 900 - y

    sub this into ur other equation

    4 (900 - y) + 7y = 5100 ... this is ur 1 equation
