    Can you clarify this? Is the problem: a^2+a-3 subtracted from 3a^2-5, and "a" remains a variable, or are you saying "a" is equal to 3 when you put "a-3"? Therefore, the problem is 3^2 subtracted from 3 (3) ^2-5. Or ... ?
