    Generally we pay h to purchase the house, and then each year must pay 10% of the value of the house in property taxes. We could write:

    House owning costs = h + 0.10h = 1.10h.

    Note that we'd not likely have to pay a tax on the property when you purchase it, except for relatively small fees such as "transfer tax."
