A toy rocket blasts straight up off the gound with an initial velocity of 50 ft/s. How long will the rocket remain in the air? Use the formula h=-16t^2+50t where h is the height of the rocket in feet and t is the time in seconds after liftoff. Assume no air resistance, and that the rocket has no propelling force after liftoff. Round your answer to the nearest tenth.

    Because the question is how long and not how much distance it will travel the given formula is unnecessary.

    We can solve this question simply by calculating how much time will pass until toy stops going up and than double that time because toy will need same time to get to the ground.

    To do all of that we will use simple formula:

    t=v/a where a is gravitational acceleration

    We will use 10m/s^2 as gravitational acceleration

    t=50/10 = 5 seconds

    2t = 10 seconds

    Answer is after 10 seconds.
