To solve a system of linear equations, we eliminate a variable from the equations by multiplying its coefficient with a suitable number so that they cancel out each other.

Then we are left with only one variable and we add/subtract them to get their value.

When we get the value of one variable, we can substitute it in either of the equations to find the value of the other variable.

Step 1: Multiply each equation by a suitable number so that the two equations have the same leading coefficient ...

Step 2: Subtract the second equation from the first.

Step 3: Solve this new equation for y.

Step 4: Substitute y = 2 into either Equation 1 or Equation 2 above and solve for x.
