Simply by combining like terms that are on the same side of the equation. Which terms can be combined? - 7+12-2x=23+13x

    -7x and - 2x

    Subtract 12 from both sides

    Subtracting 13x from both sides

    Divide by - 22

    If we need to stick to the same side, only - 7 and 12 may be combined.

    If we can bring stuff to the other side we can combine 2x with 13x, and 23 with the other constants, but that's not what was asked.

    Answer: Only - 7 and 12 may be combined.
