A Turtle and a Snail are 360 meters apart, and they start to move towards each other at 3 p. m. If the Turtle is 11 times as fast as the Snail, and they met at 3:40 p. m., find the speed of each.

    We have to deal with the distance in more detail

    If the turtle is 11 times faster than the snail, the amount of distance he will cover is 11 times more.

    d / (360 - d) = 1/11

    11d = 360 - d

    12d = 360

    d = 30 The Snail covers 30 meters. The turtle covers 11*30 = 330 meters.

    Answers

    Rate of snail = 30 meters / 40 minutes = 3/4 meter / minute

    Rate of turtle = 330 meters / 40 minutes = 8.25 meters / minute.
