    X - Tims age

    y - sons age

    now : x=2y

    in six years: x+6=3 (y-6)

    we subsitude to second equation x=2y

    2y+6=3y-18

    -y=-24 / : (-1)

    y=24

    x=2*24=48

    Now Tims son is 24 years old
