11.8 <-- - This would be your answer.

Now, how we get this answer is by first looking at the problem, and recognizing how the distributive property works. The distributive property works by multiplication of the number or mathematical value (such as a number or variable or some combination of a number and a variable, an example being 2x) with the numbers or other mathematical values in the parentheses.

    So we can look at 2 (5.9) as 2 * 5.9, or that's, 2 times 5.9.

to multiply a whole number by a decimal, we multiply the 2 by 9, we get 18. Carry the 1 over the 5 in 5.9, and leave the 8 in the tenths place, (the first place to the right of the decimal,) then times 5 by 2. We get 10, add the 1 from before, and it's 11. So put the whole number with our decimal of 0.8, and our final answer is now 11.8.
