Mike and Bill sell cars for Jangle's Auto. Over the past year they sold 640 cars. Assuming Mike sells 3 times as many as Bill, how many cars did Mike sell?

    Bill sold x number of cars Total of cars=x+3x=4x 640=4x X=640/4 X=160 160*3=480 cars

    Mike sells 3 times.

    Bill sells 1 time.

    Together, they sell (3 + 1) = 4 times.

    Those 4 times total up to 640 cars.

    So each time = (640/4) = 160 cars.

    Bill sells 1 time = 160 cars.

    Mike sells 3 times = (3 x 160) = 480 cars

    Bill is certainly no slouch, but Mike!

    Mike sells like 4 cars every 3 days, for the whole year!

    I hope Jangle's realizes what they've got there, and

    compensates him accordingly.
