What number must be added to the polynomial to complete the square? Use the slash mark (/) as a fraction bar if necessary. x2 + x

    X does not equal one but there is 1x in the problem so it is 1.

    So ... to complete the square you always take 1/2 of that number.

    so half of 1 is 1/2.

    Then you square that number 1/2 * 1/2 = 1/4
