1. divide both sides by 7 (-5x - 5 = 35)

2. simplify 245/7 to 35 (-5x - 5 = 35)

3. add 5 to both sides (-5x = 35 + 5)

4. simplify 35 + 5 to 40 (-5x = 40)

5. divide both sides by - 5 (x = - 40/5)

6. lastly simplify 40/5 to 8 (x = - 8)

Multiply out brackets:

-35x-35=245

+35 to each side:

-35x=280

Divide by - 35:

x=280/-35

x=-8
