First we must cut off 25% of the stick. we can get the new length of the stick by either

    1) Subtracting 25%of 84 from 84:

    84 - (0.25 x 84)

    84-21

    63 OR

    2) Find 75% of 84, as this is the remaining percentage when 25% is taken away:

    84 x 0.75

    63

Either way, we end up with 63cm. This is the length of the remaining piece. The questions says that it is then cut into 6 equal pieces. Keep in mind that it is the 63 cm stick being cut into 6 equal pieces.

We must simply divine 63 by 6 ...

    63/6 = 10.5

25 has to be made into a decimal =.25 divided by 84 divided by 6 because you're dividing it into (6) pieces.
