12.3 - (-9.6) = 12.3 + 9.6 Simplify the expression, and explain what the number means with regard to the problem.

    When two negatives are put together, it makes a positive. Something subtracted by a negative number, will then have that negative number added to it. Don't ask me to explain, it's just a rule in math.
