    shortest : 9

    longer : 9 + 5 = 14

    third : 3 x 9 = 27

    Step-by-step explanation:

    let a be the shortest side

    shortest side : a

    longer side : a + 5

    third side: 3a

    a + a + 5 + 3a = 50

    5a + 5 = 50

    5a = 45

    a = 9
