    Area=legnth times width

    area=11 and 7/8

    legnth=4 and 3/4

    width=x

    covvert to impropert fractions

    11 and 7/8=88/8+7/8=95/8

    4 and 3/4=16/4+3/4=19/4

    95/8=19/4 times x

    multiply boths ides by the inverse of 19/4 to make it one (multiply both sides by 4/19)

    380/152=2 and 1/2

    width=2 and 1/2 feet

    Length of the rectangular tabletop = 4 3/4 feet

    = 19/4 feet

    Let us assume the width of the rectangular table = x feet

    Area of the rectangular tabletop = 11 7/8 square feet

    = 95/8 square feet

    Then

    Area = length * width

    95/8 = 19x/4

    19x * 8 = 95 * 4

    x = (95 * 4) / (19 * 8)

    = 5/2 feet

    = 2 1/2 feet

    So the width of the rectangular tabletop is 2 1/2 feet. i hope the procedure for finding the solution is easy enough for you to understand.
