A sales manager noticed that the number of units sold for two t shirts styles, style A and style B, was the same during June and July. In June, total sales were $2779 for the two in July, total sales for the two styles were $15.95 per shirt and B selling for $22.95 per shirt. In July total sales for the two styles were $2385.10, with A selling at the same price and B selling at a selling at a discount of 22% off the June price. How many t shirts of each style were sold in June and July combined?

    To answer this item, we let x be the number of t-shirt style A and y be the number of t-shirt style B sold during June and July. Being discounted for 22%, the amount that is to be paid for t-shirt B in July is only $17.90. The equations that would best represent the given case are,

    15.95x + 22.95y = 2779

    15.95x + 17.90y = 2385.10

    The values of x and y are 62 and 78, respectively.
