Two positive numbers have a difference of 5. the larger number is one more than twice the smaller. find the two numbers.

    Let the numbers be x and y with x being the larger number.

    Given,

    x - y = 5

    x = 5 + y

    Also given,

    x = 1 + 2y

    5 + y = 1 + 2y

    y = 4

    x = 5 + y = 9

    Hence, the two numbers are 9 and 4.
