    First step is simplifying both sides of the equation.

    -8 + (3) (9y) = 8 - 9 - 7y + 299

    -8 + 27y = - 7y + (8 - 9 + 299)

    Then, combine like terms.

    -8 + 27y = - 7y + 298

    Add 7y to both sides which turns 27y to 34y and gets rid of the 7y on the right side.

    -8 + 34y = 298

    Add 8 to both sides.

    34y = 306

    Divide both sides by 34.

    34y/34 = 306/34
