    4 - 4y - y² = 0

    -y² - 4y + 4 = 0

    y = - (-4) ± √ ((-4) ² - 4 (4) (-1))

    2 (-1)

    y = 4 ± √ (16 + 16)

    -2

    y = 4 ± √ (32)

    -2

    y = 4 ± 4√ (2)

    -2

    y = 4 + 4√ (2) or y = 4 - 4√ (2)

    -2 - 2

    y = - 2 - 2√ (2) or y = - 2 + 2√ (2)

    The answer is C.
