    Hey You!

    The second number, which is 5 more than twice the first, is y.

    y = 2x + 5

    x + y = 44

    x + (2x + 5) = 44

    3x + 5 = 44

    3x = 44 - 5

    3x = 39

    x = 39/3

    x = 13

    For the other number:

    x + y = 44

    13 + y = 44

    y = 44 - 13

    y = 31

    The two numbers are 13 and 31.

    X+y=44

    x=2y+5

    2y+5+y=44

    3y=39

    y=13

    x=31
