    Let x = number of miles, cost per mile = 82 cents = $0.82

    Cost = 19.95 + 0.82*x

    178.21 = 19.95 + 0.82x

    0.82x + 19.95 = 178.21

    0.82x = 178.21 - 19.95

    0.82x = 158.26

    x = 158.26/0.82

    x = 193

    He drove 193 miles.
