The sum of two numbers is thirty. Three times the smaller is equal to two times the larger.

    X + y = 30

    3x = 2y

    y = 30 - x

    3x = 2 (30 - x)

    3x = 60 - 2x

    5x = 60

    x = 12

    12 + 18 = 30
