If Jake were 2 years older, he would be as twice as old as Tom. If Jake is 16, how old is Tom?

    Well if Jake is 16 now and if he he was 2 years older, which would be 18, and this would be twice as old as Tom, Tom must be 9 because

    16+2 = 2t

    18=2t

    9=t

    Tom is 9 because 16+2=18 and 18/2=9
