If the first step in the solution of the equation - 8 - 7x = - 5x - 10 is "add 10," then what should the next step be?

    Since you've added the 10 to both sides you should now have

    -2-7x = - 5x so next you'd want to add the 7x to both sides. This gets you

    -2=2x now all you have to do is divide both sides by positive 2.

    -1=x would be your answer. Hope this makes sense.
