    5 plain pencils and 5 pens ... total of 10 in all

    probability of picking a plain pencil is 5/10 which reduces to 1/2

    5 colored pencils and 7 crayons ... total of 12 in all

    probability of picking a colored pencil is 5/12

    probability of picking both ... 1/2 * 5/12 = 5/24 <==
