    Let the amount Dan has = X

    Keisha has 5 less than Dan, so she has X - 5

    Chau has 4 times what Dan has, so he has 4x

    Now we have X + X-5 + 4x = 97

    Combine the like terms: x + x + 4x = 6X

    Now we have 6x - 5 = 97

    Add 5 to each side:

    6x = 102

    Solve for X by dividing both sides by 6:

    X = 102 / 6

    X = 17

    Dan = X = $17

    Keisha = X-5 = 17-5 = $12

    Chau = 4x = 4*17 = $68
