    probably made an error with positive negative signs

    Step-by-step explanation

    remember what you do on one side of the equal sign you do to the other side.

    2-6x=5-5 (x-1)

    multiply 5 (x-1) to get below

    2 - 6x = 5 - 5x + 5

    combine like terms on right side 5+5=10

    2 - 6x = 10 - 5x

    subtract 2 from each side of equal sign

    -6x = 8 - 5x

    add 5 x to each side to cancel out right side

    -1x = 8

    now divide by - 1 on each side to get the variable alone

    x = - 8
