Two solutions of salt water contain 0.1% and 0.22% salt respectively. A lab technician wants to make 1 liter of solution which contains 0.13% salt. How much of each solution should she use? Amount of 0.1% solution = milliliters Amount of 0.22% solution = milliliters

    we will consider here quantity in liters of the 0.22% solution is = x

    so that the quantity of 0.01% solution will be = 1 - x

    so amount of salt in the mix will be as here

    0.22 % (x) + 0.1 (1-x) = 0.13% (1)

    solve it we get

    x = 0.25

    and

    1-x will be = (1 - 0.25) = 0.75

    so she use 750 mL of 0.22% solution and 250 mL of 0.1%
