    Perimeter of a rectangle =

    P = 2 (L + w)

    P = 54

    L = 3w - 5

    54 = 2 (3w - 5 + w)

    (Combine like terms)

    54 = 2 (4w - 5)

    (Distribute the 2)

    54 = 8w - 10

    (Add 10 to both sides)

    64 = 8w

    (Divide 8 from both sides)

    W = 8m

    (L = 8 (3) - 5 = 19m)
