Bagels costs. 95 cents, Leticia wants to but 12 bagels. She uses partial products to find her total. She says "$16.80 is close to my estimate of 12*$1 = $12, so this total is reasonable" Do you agree with her? Explain your reasoning

12 bagels,.95 each

10 * 0.5 = 5

10 * 0.9 = 9

2 * 0.5 = 1

2 * 0.9 = 1.8

$5 + $9 + $1 + $1.80 = $16.80

    No. Her reasoning was

    10 * 0.5 = 5

    10 * 0.9 = 9

    2 * 0.5 = 1

    2 * 0.9 = 1.8

    but it should have been

    10 * 0.05 = 0.5

    10 * 0.9 = 9

    2 * 0.05 = 0.1

    2 * 0.9 = 1.8

    to end up with $11.40

The 0.5 is in the wrong decimal place, it should be 0.05
