Jacob was baking cupcakes. For one batch he used 1 cup of flour. On another batch, he only use 5/11 of a cup. How much more did he use in the first batch than in the second batch?

    We need to make a common denominator so we can compare them. We can multiply 1cup by 11 to get 11/11 cups which can now be compared to 5/11. If you subtract these you get 6/11, so Jacob used 6/11 more flour in the first batch. This doesn't reduce without a calculator.
