    Any physical measurement is hard to have - numbers associated with it. If you get on a scale and it reads - 50 pounds, what's your first reaction? Mine would be that there is something wrong with the scale.

    Temperature can be measured in minus numbers, but that can be accommodating the way the temperature is so variable on the planet. We made a scale that reflects what always happens.

    But we cannot have negative masses and because we have defined it that way, we don't expect negative length measurements because we don't mean that - 4 yards is possible
