Percents are always taken out of 100. 85/100 or 17/20 when reduced. Both 85 and 100 have a common factor of 5.

Denominator-In 85 the last digit is in the hundreds place do the Denominator is also in the hundred place.
Numerator-The number 85 is the Numerator
Therefore 85%=85/100
*you can reduce into 17/20
