Two buses leave a corner at the same time. One bus goes uptown at a constant rate of 25 mph, the other downtown at a rate of 15 mph. How long will it take the buses to be 30 miles apart?

A. 20 minutes

B. 30 minutes

C. 45 minutes

D. 1 hour and 15 minutes

    The rate of separation = 25 + 15 = 40 mph

    speed = distance / time

    40 = 30 / t

    t = 30/40 hour = 45 minutes
