Suppose that the weight (in pounds) of an airplane is a linear function of the amount of fuel (in gallons) in its tank. When carrying 16 gallons of fuel, the airplane weighs 2004 pounds.     with 12 gallons, weight is 2066 lbs.

    with 40 G, wt = 2220 lbs

    so, 40-12 = 28 G weigh = 2220-2066

    = 154 pounds
