    7 (5a-4) - 1=14-8a

    Distribute the expression on the left

    35a - 28 - 1 = 14 - 8a

    Combine like terms

    35a - 29 = 14 - 8a (-28-1 = - 29)

    Get the variables on one side and the integers on the other by adding 8a to both sides and adding + 29 to both side

    35a + 8a - 29 = 14 - 8a - 8a

    43a - 29 + 29 = 14 + 29

    43a=43

    Divide both sides by 43

    43a = 43

    43 43

    a=1

    Check 7 (5x1 - 4) - 1 = 14 - 8 (1)

    7 (5-4) - 1 = 14-8

    7 (1) - 1 = 6

    7-1 = 6

    6 = 6

    7 (5a-4) - 1=14-8a

    Simplify both sides of the equation ...

    7 (5a-4) - 1=14-8a

    (7) (5a) + (7) (-4) + - 1=14+-8a (Distribute)

    35a+-28+-1=14+-8a

    (35a) + (-28+-1) = - 8a+14 (Combine Like Terms)

    35a+-29=-8a+14

    35a-29=-8a+14

    Add 8a to both sides.

    35a-29+8a=-8a+14+8a

    43a-29=14

    Add 29 to both sides.

    43a-29+29=14+29

    43a=43

    Divide both sides by 43.

    43a/43 = 43/43

    a=1
