A combination lock has 40 numbers on it. How many different 3-digit lock combinations are possible if no digit can be repeated?

    This is 40*39*38 because there are 40 numbers to choose from for the first number, then because it cant be repeated 39 to choose from for the second and because both of those cant be repeated 38 to choose from
