Sally went to the grocery store and spent 4.86 on ground beef priced at 2.16 per pound. How many pounds did she buy?

    She bought 2.25 pds of ground beef. To solve, simply divide what she spent by the price per pound.

    All you are going to do is divide 4.86 by 2.16, that gives you 2.25. Thus, Sally bought 2.25 pounds of beef. If this makes no sense to you consider this. What if she spent $2 on beef that was $1 a pound. You can easily say that she bought 2 pounds of beef. How do you know this? Because 1 goes into 2, 2 times.
