We determine the number tiles needed for the bathroom floor by dividing the area of the floor by the area of tiles.

    square tiles = (40 ft²) / ((0.5 ft) (0.5 ft)) = 160 tiles

    (160 tiles) ($0.45) = $72

    rectangular tiles = (40 ft²) / ((2 ft) (0.25 ft)) = 80 tiles

    (80 tiles) ($0.80) = $64

She should choose the rectangular tiles because it will cost her $8 lesser.
