As you progress in the study of algebra, you go from performing arithmetic operations on numbers to working with unknown values represented by variables. When relationships have two variables, you see them represented on graphs with two axes. In these ways, algebra is more complicated or abstract than other kinds of mathematics. Think about these three words: computation, model, and solution. How have the meanings of these words changed for you since you started studying algebra? In what way do the words have the same meaning?
