    x^2 - 14x - 15 = 0

    a = 1 b = - 14 c=-15

    Then use the quadratic formula:

    x = [-b + - sq root (b^2 - 4ac) ] / 2a

    x = [--14 + - sq root (14^2 - 4*1*-15] / 2*1

    x = [14 + - sq root (196 + 60) ] / 2

    x = [14 + - 16] / 2

    x1 = 15

    x2 = - 1
