    Well to solve this the way that I used was just to guess and check until everything works out. The answer is 4 large bottles and 4 small bottles, because 4+4=8 and 8=8 and then. 88*4=3.62 and. 42*4=1.68 and then 3.62+1.68=5.2=) Enjoy!=)

    So using legit math and algebra so

    5.2 L

    8 bottles so

    c=number of bottles brought by carlos

    j=number of bottles bought by jada

    so j+c=8 and

    carlos=.88 lieters and

    j=0.42 lieters

    so ammount is

    0.42j+0.88c=5.2

    with the equations

    0.42j+0.88c=5.2 and

    j+c=8

    solve for j and c

    j+c=8

    subtract c from both sides

    j=8-c

    subsitute 8-c for j in first equation

    0.42 (8-c) + 0.88c=5.2

    distribute

    3.36-0.42c+0.88c=5.2

    add like terms

    3.36+0.46c=5.2

    subtract 3.36 from both sides

    1.84=0.46c

    divide both sides by 0.46

    4=c

    subsitute

    c=4

    subsiute 4 for c in ffirst equation

    c=4

    c+j=8

    4+j=8

    j=4

    jada=4 bottles

    carlos=4 botles
