A civil engineer is preparing to build a bridge. The bridge needs to be able to hold a maximum of 20 cars. The average car weighs approximately 3,000 pounds. If the engineer builds the bridge twice as strong as necessary, how many tons should the bridge be able to hold?

    3000 pounds times 20 cars = 60,000

    60,000 times 2 = 120,000

    1 ton = 2000 pounds

    120,000/2000 = 60 tons
