For slices of cheesecake and one slice of pie cost $18. Seven slices of cheesecake and three slices of pie cost $34. How much does one slices of cheesecake cost?

    Set this up as an equation.

    Let's have "c" represent cheese cake

    And "p" represent pie.

    4c+p=18

    7c+3p=34

    I would solve this using substitution because you already have one "p" in the top equation.

    Subtract the 4c and move it to the other side.

    p=18-4c

    Now plug the equation above into your other equation

    7c+3 (18-4c) = 34

    Distribute the 3 into 18-4c

    7c+54-12c=34

    Combine like terms.

    54-5c=34

    Subtract 54 to both sides

    -5c=-20

    Divide - 5 to both sides

    C=4
