The length of a rectangle is 4 ft longer than its width. If the perimeter of the rectangle is 48 ft, find its area.

    Hello:

    x : width. and y the length

    y=x+4 ... (1)

    2 (x+y) = 45 ... (2) ... 2 (x+y) is the perimeter

    subsct in (2):

    2 (x+x+4) = 48

    2 (2x+4) = 48

    4x+8 = 48

    4x=40

    x = 10

    y = 10+4 = 14

    the area is : 14*10 = 140 ft²
