    Jared found y = x + 10 and Nicole found x = y - 10. Then, they both are correct. Because those two equations are equivalent. You can proove that by starting by any of the equations until get the other. Start with the equation founded by Jared: y = x + 10: subtract 10 from both sides and you get y - 10 = x + 10 - 10 = > y - 10 = x, which is the same equation founded by Nicole x = y - 10.
