A sphere fits snugly within a right cylinder.

If the radius of the sphere is 4.3 inches, what is the volume of the cylinder? Round your answer to the nearest tenth, and round π to 3.14 in your calculations.

    The volume of a cylinder is:

    V=hπr^2

    Since we are placing a sphere with a radius of 4.3in within it, for the cylinder, r=4.3 and h=4.3*2=8.6, then the volume function becomes:

    V=8.6π (4.3^2)

    V=159.014π, and if we approximate π as 3.14 then:

    V=159.014 (3.14)

    V=499.30396 in^3

    V≈499.3 in^3 (to nearest tenth of a cubic inch)
