    What you want to do is you want to substitute the answer into either the first or second equations of the system of equations. For example, if y = 7, you would plug y into an equation like this:

    1. 4y + 3x = 46

    4 (7) + 3x = 46

    28 + 3x = 46

    28-28+3x = 46 - 28

    3x = 18

    3x/3 = 18/3

    x = 6.

    You should get your answer. For a 7th grader like me, it was pretty tricky, but you'll get the hang of it.
