    let x = father's age

    y = son's age

    x = 4 y

    In 3 years, x will be 3 times y, which is shown as : x+3 = 3 (y+4)

    by subtitution

    4y + 3 = 3y + 12

    y = 9 the age of the son

    x = 4 x 9 = 36 the age of the father
